WordPress vs Joomla – Which is better in 2022?

Around 10-15 years ago, developing a website involved using HTML, CSS or Flash code, which were quite complex technologies and required a minimum level of programming knowledge. In recent years, content management systems (CMS = Content Management Systems) such as WordPres and Joomla have come a long way, making website development more accessible even without technical programming skills.

A content management system (CMS) is an easy-to-use platform for creating websites and managing their content, using a user-friendly interface and without the need to write code.

We know that due to WordPress and Joomla the prices for building a website have dropped a lot. But it is also more efficient for Minnesota web design companies to work on customizing an open source CMS to provide personalized websites for clients. But, the question still remains, which CMS is better in 2022, WordPress or Joomla?

WordPress

Originally conceived as a development and administration platform designed exclusively for blogs, WordPress has advanced significantly in recent years to become the most popular content management system (CMS) for personal websites, product presentation, service presentation, and online magazines. WordPress offers several unique benefits, the most important of which are:

  • Easy installation – Many hosting companies offer automatic installation. Even with a manual installation, you can have a website online in less than an hour;
  • High degree of customization – There are a wide variety of plugins or themes created specifically for WordPress;
  • Online commerce – if you need an online shop, it can be easily implemented using additional plugins (e.g. Woocomerce).
  • The WordPress platform can be installed and used for free by anyone. There are many free and premium themes and plugins;
  • Large community – With millions of active members, the WordPress community is one of the largest in the world, which translates into easy access to support.

Of course, the WordPress platform is not perfect. One of the most common problems is that as the site grows, the resource requirements increase significantly. Also changes in the way the platform works are quite difficult to implement. However, these drawbacks pose problems for very large sites with hundreds of thousands of visitors per day, and in this case a more robust platform may be required. For beginners or small sites, WordPress is still the best choice.

Joomla

Joomla has often been characterized as a compromise solution between WordPress and Drupal. It is a powerful content management system that can run very well on most web server configurations. Setting up and administering this platform is slightly more complicated than WordPress.

As with WordPress, there are multiple plugins and themes available for Joomla, so that the website developed on this platform can be customized according to one’s wishes. Other advantages would be:

  • Social networking – Probably the biggest advantage of this platform. Joomla offers the possibility to create social networking sites very easily and quickly;
  • Online commerce – If you need an online shop, it can be easily implemented using Joomla. It is true that WordPress also allow you to implement an online shop, but Joomla is much easier, offering native support for this function;
  • Ease of use – According to most users, Joomla has managed to find a middle ground between the ease of use characteristic of WordPress and the power and robustness offered by Drupal. While most users will be able to install and manage a site on Joomla without technical assistance, there will be a few situations where specialist help will be needed.
  • Community support – Even though there aren’t as many educational resources for Joomla as for WordPress, the Joomla user community portal contains a lot of information and you can get answers to most questions there.
  • It’s free – Like WordPress, the platform is free to use.

Joomla is appreciated by developers for its ease of use and power. Joomla has managed to create a very good platform. Joomla’s popularity has been growing in recent years and is likely to continue to grow, making it the perfect choice for those looking for a solution that is more powerful than WordPress but easier to use than Drupal.
